One of the major activities within the Public Health pro-
grams is the intervention in the streets (street work).
Initially, within the program, interventions were made in
order to record the main points of gathering of target
groups, such as informal camps, detention centers, ther-
apeutic communities, hospitality areas, etc., and subse-
quently to inform the target group members on hygiene
and transmitted infections. Main themes for information
included virus prevention methods for HIV and Hepatitis
B and C, and the range of medical services provided in
clinics (gynecological examination, examination for HIV/
Hepatitis B and C, dentistry, general practitioner and
pediatrician services).
The investigation and recording of the conditions prevail-
ing in the living spaces of the beneficiaries of the pro-
gram of Public Health is another major landmark. For the
year 2013, in Athens, the living conditions of 4,407 people
were recorded. They found the following:
Homeless:
191 (4,11%)
Renting a house:
3158 (73,11 %)
Hosted in a friendly house of fellow
nationals:
733 (15,78%)
Staying in a guesthouse:
90 (1,94%)
Private residence:
172 (3,70%)
Living in a deserted house:
32 (0,69%)
Living in a hotel:
31 (0,67%)
TOTAL:
4.407 (100%)
