Since June 2012, PRAKSIS hasimplemented interventions in the
Kordyallos Women’s Prison and the Prisoner’s Hospital. The goal
of both interventions is the psychological and social support and
legal counseling for prisoners who have been diagnosed with HIV
during the course of their imprisonment, but also after they have
been released.
The interventions are implemented on a weekly basis by a So-
cial Worker, a Psychologist and a Legal Counsel in individual and
group sessions.
PRAKSIS has conducted interventions in women’s prisons since
June 2012,implementing individual and group sessions with 30
prisoners who have been diagnosed with HIV. The program of in-
terventionsended in June 2013.
In April 2013, PRAKSIS started an intervention at the “Saint Paul”
Korydallos Prisoners’ Hospitaland this intervention is still in pro-
gress in 2014. In this specific intervention, individual and group
sessions were initially implemented with sevenprisoners diag-
nosed with HIV, and later with 26 prisoners until the end of 2013.
Through November 2014, 79 prisoners who have been diagnosed
with HIV have been a part of this intervention.
The issues discussed in the group are of medical nature or re-
gardpreventative issues, housing issues, imprisonment issues,
and advice about their documents. In general, the intervention
provides support in multiple issues that might arise. At the same
time,role-playing exercises are implemented through which the
prisoner learns about himself and finds new and different ways of
approach and management.
Moreover, there is a possibility of an intervention implemented by
a doctor who is specifically trained in infections so that more spe-
cialized medical issues can be discussed.
