ANNUAL ACTIVITY REPORT 2013 - page 64

During 2013, the Social Housing program received an in-
creased number of applications compared to its first year
(3,501 in 2013 vs. 2,233 in 2012) and helped in total 1,227
families. The analysis that follows refers exclusively to the
new registrations so as to avoid any possibility of double
counting (884).
During the period of the report, 655 families in total com-
pleted the program and the data related to the employ-
ment are analysed based on this population.
Of the new families that were enrolled during this period,
73% are have both parents present while 7% are headed
by a single parent.
It is noteworthy that again in this second year of imple-
menting this program, participants saw a reduction in their
incomes (which is the main criterion for enrolment) rang-
ing from 80% in family incomes in Thessaloniki to about
60% in the family incomes in Athens. What characterizes
this decrease is inequality. According to the registered in-
comes, incomes in the firstquartile (or in the lowest 25% of
registered incomes) have suffered a reduction of 80% in
comparison to the incomes of this quartile in 2010. A total
of 749 people found employment, while 128 went through
the process of regaining their confidence in searching for
a job by broadening their skills and qualifications, through
the completion of at least a secondary education with the
Second Chance Schools. Out of those who succeeded,
70% are employed in the private sector and 30% in the
wider public sector.
