European HIV Testing Week
With the message “Talk about HIV, do the test”, PRAKSIS set in
motion a one-week campaign of activities that included inform-
ing, raising awareness and conducting rapid HIV tests in Athens,
Thessaloniki and Patras.The program was cohosted by PRAKSIS,
Kentro Zois and Thetiki Foni (Positive Voice), while KETHEA (Ther-
apy Center for Dependent Individuals), KETHEA Prometheus and
OKANA (Greek Organization Against Drugs) and other actors also
supported this effort.
In Athens, trips were organized on a daily basis at STEGI
SYNATHINA and also in a different municipality every. This ef-
fort involved various record producers and a performance by
the NGO TECHNODROMO and its theatrical team. HIV Testing
Week was supported with the presence of the Mayor of Athens
Mr.Yiorgos Kaminis, the Deputy Minister of Health Ms. Zetta
Makri, the General Secretary for Gender Equality Vasso Kollia,
the Ambassador of Holland in Greece Mr. Jan Versteeg and oth-
ers who were tested.
In Thessaloniki, the Mobile Unit visited seven different spots of
the city. THESSALONIKI GAY PRIDE also provided their support.
The implementation also was sponsored by the Municipality of
Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Ambelokipi, the Municipality of
Evosmos, the Municipality of Kalamaria, the Aristotle Univerisity,
DIPETHE, PAE IRAKLIS,
and
Block 33. This effort was supported by the Mayor and Deputy
Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Yiannis Boutari and Ms. Goula Calyp-
so, among others.
Simultaneously, in Patras, a series of activities took place at Ag-
iou Georgou square informing people about HIV/AIDS, and tests
were conducted on a daily basis. Among others, Maria Andriko-
poulou, Deputy Mayor of Patras,honored us with her presence
and submitted to a rapid HIV test.
