PRAKSIS provides independent and temporary accommoda-
tion in self-managed apartments to newly-arrived asylum seek-
ers through the “STEGI” program in the areas of Athens, Thes-
saloniki and Mytilene.
The apartments are autonomous and are funded by the organi-
zation, and they host people who recently came to our country
from war zones or who had to suddenly abandon their country
because of violations to their basic human rights.
Priorities are given to the most vulnerable populations like un-
accompanied mothers, single-parentfamilies and families with
many children, certified torture victims and people with chronic
health problems.
The goal of PRAKSIS is, through temporary accommodation,
to make the guests feel safe in their new country from which
they have asked protection, and to support them so as to have
a smooth and quick integration into Greek society. While the
beneficiaries of this program stay at an apartment, the multi-
disciplinary team of PRAKSIS, which is composed of social
workers, psychologists, social mediators and doctors, covers a
wide range of needs (legal, psychological, social, employment,
medical, etc.) either through other programs and actions of
PRAKSIS or through the linkages with a network of specialized,
relevant and competent organizations and individuals.
The ultimate goal of this program is the fastest possible au-
tonomy of the beneficiaries and their integration in the Greek
community.
In 2013, PRAKSIS operated 25 apartments:
19 in Attiki, 4 in Thessaloniki and 2 in Mytilene.
