INTEGRATION TO THE
LABORMARKET
PRAKSIS SUPPORT
AND INTEGRATION
PRAKSIS, in order to help people from vulnerable social
groups enroll in the labor market, operates the Employment
Counseling program in Athens and Thessaloniki.
This program aims at supporting beneficiaries in a multi-di-
mensional way, by providing information and job-counseling,
in order to give them a thorough knowledge of the labor mar-
ket, as well as of their personal skills and capacities in order
to promote them in the labor market.
Placing the beneficiaries into the right job position is
achieved by making targeted connections with the labor
market, as well as through an overall support and improve-
ment of the target group’s qualifications, linking the benefi-
ciaries with training providers and education.
The beneficiaries primarily are placed into positions involv-
ing unskilled labor, cleaning services, and restaurant and
catering services.
The main obstacles to promoting beneficiaries in the labor
market are the difficulty in communication due to the foreign
language, the delay or difficulty in the issuing of the neces-
sary legal documents, various legal issues, as well as racism
on the part of the employers.
Of specific concern to making work available to asylum
seekers in this country is the legislative framework which
limits their access to the labor market. With the current leg-
islation (Law 19000/442, 19/10/2012), it is very difficult, even
impossible, for the applicant to be issued a work permit, a
necessary document for proceeding with their integration in
the labor market. PRAKSIS is pursuing actions toward lifting
this law and securing access for asylum seekers to the labor
market.
The employment counselors of PRAKSIS can:
Provide information about labor rights and
duties
Provide information about the possibilities
of finding permanent employment and pur-
suing educational/training programs
Search for employment that covers the
needs of each beneficiary
Complete, along with the beneficiary, their
Curriculum Vitae which then can be given to
employers.
