MOBILE UNIT FOR INFORMATION AND
EXAMINATION FOR HIV, HEPATITIS B & C
Within PRAKSIS’ framework of Public Health and intervention in
the field of prevention, the program“Mobile Unit Information and
Examination on HIV and Hepatitis B” was created in June 2010.
Specially designed Mobile Units with appropriately trained scien-
tific staff are in the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki daily, in
order to invite populations with high-risk profiles (based on the
official epidemiological data) to get quick and free of charge test-
ing for HIV.
In both the PRAKSIS Mobile Units and the PRAKSIS Polyclinics
in Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as in the Day Center for the
Homeless in Athens and the Drop-In Center in Patras, the rapid
test for the HIV virus (a testing performed on oral fluid and which
gives results within 20 minutes) is available daily, free of charge,
anonymously and without appointment.
The testing procedure follows three stages:
1. Pre-test counseling
2. Testing
3. Result announcement, post-test counseling, and – when nec-
essary – direct connection to Centers of Special Infections.
From January to December 2013, PRAKSIS conducted 5,576
rapid HIV tests. Antibodies were detected in 51 cases.
