ASSERTIONOF RIGHTS
From the programs to congresses and the offices of those responsible.
The claim of rights of vulnerable groups that visited the agencies
of PRAKSIS was always the basic orientation of the organiza-
tion. In the last four months of 2013,PRAKSIS took the decision
to invest in this section with the goal of a more comprehensive
intervention in the system of public health, in the welfare state
and in matters of immigration, refugees, unaccompanied minors
and human trafficking. The work thus in this sector followed
these lines of action:
Observation of the Greek Parliament:
Priorities were established in matters which concern the organi-
zation, and a team of volunteers was established that had as an
objective to monitor the public positions of the deputies as well
as their questions and answers in the Greek parliament. There
were cases where it was determined that a written or telephonic
intervention on the part of the organization to the deputies was
necessary to better inform them about certain matters in order
to formulate future questions more carefully and to correct in
some stages the means of intervention.
Representation:
The participation of the organization in networks of local, national
and European scope is a fundamental principle of PRAKSIS.
The target of the new division that was created was the broad-
ening of alliances and the representation of the organization and
the networks that want to have a voice and to assert a position
but that do not have the necessary funds and dedicated staff
or volunteers. In 2013, PRAKSISbecame a member of the Euro-
pean Platform for the Confrontation of International Trafficking
and twice represented our country in Brussels. These were two
important occasions for the categorization of the claims with
the rest of the countries in Europe. Furthermore, this participa-
tion helped the strengthening of the cooperation with the Greek
political leaders and the European commissioner.
The society of citizens converses:
The organization of open adhoc meetings aiming at the investi-
gation of the different aspects of the current issues that concern
citizens’ society was a new necessary action in this area. Two
very important matters occupied us in 2013: the adjustments
that were promoted in the sector of Primary National Health
Network and the new law for citizenship for second-generation
immigrants.
Participation in conversations and conferences:
PRAKSIS was called upon to participate in eight conferences
and five open discussions while it followed with interventions
over 10 discussions/ meetings. The themes concerned ac-
cess to public health and medicine, the problems that face the
patients associations, the lack of shelter, the poverty and the
guaranteed minimum income, the application of human rights
in Greece during the crisis, discrimination and social exclusion,
trafficking, the confrontation of the HIV epidemic among drug
addicts, and the role of the Mass Media.
Preparation for the Greek Presidency:
PRAKSIS was given the opportunity, through the national team
for drug matters and the Greek Platform for Development, to
participate in the preparation of three important theme that
were adopted in the program of the Greek Presidency of the
